As a firm we believe it is important for our staff have a sound knowledge of the farming industry to understand what our clients do. Farm walks offer us the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the work our clients do and the challenges they face.
For our spring farm walk we visited Hammonds End Farm. The farm is a mixed organic farm home to a variety of livestock. We saw cows, sheep, chickens and a couple of goats!
It was interesting to hear how different areas of the farm all worked together. A new rain harvesting system providing water to the livestock and bee hives to help pollinate the farm. Collaborating with other local farms also brings many benefits.
The farm has put a lot of thought and effort into engaging with local schools and the public. There are interactive QR codes on footpath markers across the farm. These link to videos telling the story of the farm and what is happening throughout the year. Eggs are sold locally directly to consumers. We walked through the beautiful ancient wood full of bluebells which was recently host to an Easter egg hunt! It was lovely to hear how many opportunities there are for the public to support and enjoy the farm.
The farm as also previously taken part in Open Farm Sunday. Open Farm Sunday provides us with another opportunity to visit local farms. The LEAF Open Farm Sunday 2021 impact survey results showed 95% of visitors said they appreciated more the work farmers do following a visit.
Thank you to Stuart for letting us visit the farm and to Nick and Chas for showing us round.
We are always looking for different places to visit. If you would be interested in hosting a visit on your farm, please get in touch, we would love the opportunity to come and see what you do!
